Warnings and Precautions
Taking very high doses of pancreatin may increase your risk of a rare intestinal disorder called fibrosing colonopathy. So if you experience any of the following symptoms that are unusual or severe, tell your doctor right away:
Abdominal pain
Bloating
Difficulty in defecation
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
What is fibrosing colonopathy?
Fibrosing colonopathy is a rare but serious side effect that has been reported with very high, long-term doses of pancreatic enzymes, often in children with cystic fibrosis.
Patients with fibrosing colonopathy should be closely monitored by a doctor, as some patients may be at risk of developing intestinal strictures. In general, it is recommended that the daily dose of pancreatic enzymes should be less than 10,000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight unless higher doses are clinically necessary and in the opinion of a doctor. In this case, higher doses should be used with caution and only if, after 3 days of fecal fat testing, it is proven that the higher dose has significantly improved fat absorption.
However, the risk of this complication is reduced by strictly following the dosage prescribed by your doctor
Possible risk of increased blood uric acid
Patients with gout, kidney failure, or high blood uric acid should use Creofort capsules with caution, as this drug may increase blood uric acid levels.
Allergic reactions
Patients with a history of allergy to animal proteins should use Creofort with caution.
Severe allergic reactions have been reported rarely with other products containing pancreatic enzymes with different formulations. In patients with severe allergies, the risks and benefits of continuing treatment with pancreatic enzymes should be considered, taking into account the patient’s clinical needs.
Drug interactions
No drug interactions have been identified with the simultaneous use of other drugs with pancreatin.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy Category: C
The effect of pancreatin on possible harm to the fetus of pregnant women or impairment of reproductive capacity in women has not been established. Therefore, pregnant women should take Creofort capsules only if clearly needed. The benefits and risks of taking pancreatin should be considered in consideration of the need for adequate nutritional support for a pregnant woman with pancreatic insufficiency, since adequate calorie intake during pregnancy is very important for normal maternal weight gain and fetal growth, and maternal weight loss and malnutrition can be associated with adverse effects during pregnancy.
Breast-feeding
It is not known whether pancreatin passes into human milk after use. However, Creofort capsules should be used with caution and under the advice of a physician in breastfeeding women.
Driving and using machines
There are no reports of the effect of Pancreatin on the ability to drive or use machines.
