Usage:
How should you take Fosfinex?
Always take your medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has recommended.
Don’t forget to take your medication. Your doctor will tell you the duration of your medication treatment. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The contents of the sachet should be dissolved in half a glass of water or any other beverage and consumed. It is best to take the medicine before going to bed at night after emptying the bladder.
What are the storage conditions for Phosphinex?
Store the medicine at a temperature below 30°C and away from light and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. The prepared solution should be used immediately.
Do not use Fosfinex after the expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

What should you know before taking Fosfinex?
Fosfinex should not be used in the following cases:
– If you are allergic to fosfomycin trometamol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
– If you have severe kidney disease.
– If you are on hemodialysis.
– Children under 12 years old
Precautions
– Talk to your doctor before taking Fosfinex.
Before starting treatment with Fosphinex, please check whether you have ever had an allergic reaction to fosfomycin.
– If some symptoms of the disease remain two to three days after starting treatment, this does not mean that the medication was not effective. This condition could be due to the inflammation itself.
Food may delay the oral absorption of fosfomycin trometamol.
Other medications and Fosfinex
– Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have recently taken any medication.
– Concomitant use of this drug with anti-nausea and vomiting drugs such as metoclopramide can reduce the antibiotic effect of fosfomycin.
– Although no other cases of interaction have been reported, medications such as bethanechol, cisapride, domperidone, and laxatives that increase intestinal and stomach movements may reduce the effectiveness of this antibiotic.
Taking Fosphinex with food, medicine, and alcohol
It is recommended to take this medicine on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, as taking it with food delays the absorption of the medicine.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fosphinex 3 Gram Granules for Oral Solution.
Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers can only take this medicine if prescribed by a doctor (equivalent to 3 grams of fosfomycin).
The benefits of using this medicine outweigh its risks. Other side effects include:
Driving and using machinery
There have been no reports of the effect of this drug on operating machinery or driving.
Fosfinex contains sucrose:
This medicine contains 2.213 g of sucrose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Consumption rate
– Adults:
In the treatment of acute lower urinary tract infections caused by microbes sensitive to fosfomycin, the therapeutic dose is a single sachet (dose) of Fosfinex.
In the prevention of urinary tract infections after surgery or diagnostic maneuvers within the urinary tract, the usual dose is one sachet of Fosphinex three hours before and another sachet 24 hours after surgery.
Elderly patients or other clinical conditions
In the elderly or in other cases (for example, bedridden patients), two sachets of Fosfinex taken 24 hours apart may be necessary.
Patients with kidney failure
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment.
If you take more medicine than recommended
In cases of accidental drug poisoning, help flush the drug out of the body by drinking plenty of fluids. If you miss a dose of Fosphinex:
If you miss a dose, take it immediately.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. If you have any further questions about this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
If you stop taking Fosfinex
Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor, as you will not get the expected medicinal effect.
What are the possible side effects?
Like any other medicine, this product has its own side effects, although not everyone will experience side effects.
Common side effects: 10 percent of people
Digestive problems such as diarrhea, vomiting, dyspepsia, feeling of fullness and acidity of the stomach, and nausea.
Rare side effects (1 in 1,000 people)
Skin reactions such as exanthema, skin rashes, hives (red patches of skin with itching), angioedema (swelling of the skin) and anaphylaxis (a severe allergic or hypersensitivity reaction). In these cases, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You may be able to take another medicine to relieve these side effects and there is no need to stop taking the medicine.
A slight increase in the number of eosinophil leukocytes and platelets (blood cells), as well as mild petechial reactions (small red spots on the skin) and aplastic anemia (a decrease in blood cells) may occur.
Other side effects that have been reported and that cannot be estimated with the available information include:
– Vision problems, decreased or no appetite, phlebitis (formation of thrombosis in the vessels), dyspnea (difficulty breathing, bronchospasm (spasm) of the bronchi and severe difficulty breathing), headache
– Hepatic changes caused by increased liver enzymes (transaminases)

The main active ingredient is fosfomycin trometamol. Each sachet contains 631.5 grams of fosfomycin trometamol, equivalent to 3 grams of fosfomycin.
