Drug interactions
Consult your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications :
Alcohol, amphetamines, azelastine (nasal), betahistine, brimonidine (topical), buprenorphine, cannabinoid-containing products,
Central nervous system depressants, hyaluronidase, hydroxyzine, magnesium sulfate, metoclopramide, minocycline, opioid agonists, orphenadrine, oxycodone, rufinamide, zolpidem, erythromycin, azithromycin, fluoxetine, cimetidine, isocarboxazid, selegiline, tranylcypromine.
Contraindications
Avoid taking desloratadine if:
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy:
Second-generation antihistamines may be used to treat allergic rhinitis and urticaria during pregnancy. However, data on the use of desloratadine in pregnancy are limited, and other medications may be preferred.
Breastfeeding:
Desloratadine is present in breast milk. If antihistamine therapy is required in nursing women, second-generation antihistamines are recommended. However, drugs other than desloratadine may be preferred.
Side effects
See a doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms :
Headache, irritability, diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, cough, fever, drowsiness, insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, emotional lability, skin erythema, maculopapular rash, vomiting, anorexia, nausea, dyspepsia, increased appetite, dry mouth and throat, urinary tract infection, varicella zoster infection, parasitic infection, myalgia, otitis media, bronchitis, rhinorrhea, pharyngitis, nosebleed.
Severe allergic reactions, rash, irregular heartbeat, fast heartbeat, stomach pain, feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, inability to sleep, dysmenorrhea, hallucinations, seizures, restlessness with increased body movement, liver inflammation, abnormal liver function tests.
